James Foley, ISIS Video Victim, Remembered For Faith in God By Family

The world is still mourning the tragic murder of GlobalPost reporter James Foley, who was recently videotaped as an ISIS terrorist member decapitated him. Now, his faith and his legacy is being remembered by his friends, family, and everyone who was affected by his senseless murder.

"We have never been prouder of our son Jim. He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people," said Foley's mother Diane on August 19, "[He was] an extraordinary son, brother, journalist and person."

The slain news reporter previously revealed what his personal relationship with God was like in a previous letter he wrote when he was then released from captivity, along with two co-workers, in Libya three years ago.

"I began to pray the rosary," wrote Foley to the Marquette University Magazine in 2011, "It was what my mother and grandmother would have prayed. I said 10 Hail Marys between each Our Father. It took a long time, almost an hour to count 100 Hail Marys off on my knuckles. And it helped to keep my mind focused."

The 1996 Marquette graduate further expressed how his faith in The Holy Trinity got him through his grueling ordeal.

"If nothing else, prayer was the glue that enabled my freedom, an inner freedom first and later the miracle of being released during a war in which the regime had no real incentive to free us. It didn't make sense, but faith did," wrote Foley.

President Barack Obama issued the following statement regarding the death of the young journalist.

"Today the entire world is appalled by the brutal murder of Jim Foley by the terror group ISIS," said President Obama said in a press conference on August 20, "No just God would stand for what they did [on Tuesday]."
