The Isaacs' Matriarch Reflects on Jewish Roots for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, 'I'm Proud of My Heritage'

Lily Isaacs

Christian blue grass and gospel legend Lily Isaac's took a moment on Facebook to distract from the east coast blizzard and all the happenings on the news to focus on something dear to her heart, her Jewish roots.

"Today is International Holocoust Remembrance Day. I honor my parents and their entire families," wrote Isaac's on Facebook.

She shared that most of her immediate family was killed in WW2 by the Nazis. "My mother and father made it out alive! They've told their story and now I and my children and grandchildren tell the story!"

The singer then shared a a sweet sentiment in the form of an almost declarative prayer.

"God Bless America and the freedom we all enjoy here. Please join me in honoring those who suffered this nightmare in history that really did happen..... In this century! There are many parts of the world today that are suffering in a similar way. My prayers go out in their behalf today as well. I'm proud of my heritage and will carry this feeling of victory over evil all my life. Love all our faithful fans and friends."

Isaacs wrote about her experiences in a Jewish American family and some of the struggles her parents went through in her memoir "You Don't Cry Out Loud." Read about here.

BREATHEcast also interviewed the singer in a three part series. Read them here, here, and here.
