'Indiana Jones 5' News Update: Reboot Might Be In The Works?

The end isn't coming anytime soon for "Indiana Jones," as Disney confirmed just recently that the franchise will continue even after the upcoming fifth film. However, a reboot may be on the cards.

According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, while fans should not anticipate a "Star Wars"-style Indiana Jones universe, there is a possibility that the film will head in a new direction.

Disney is currently developing the fifth installment of the popular film. For "Indiana Jones 5," Steven Spielberg will be back as director, and Harrison Ford will reprise his lead role. It has also been reported that George Lucas will be back as the film's executive producer.

During a press conference for "The BFG," Steven Spielberg confirmed that he will be working with Lucas and expressed his excitement over their team-up for the project.

"George is going to be an executive producer on it with me. I would never make an 'Indiana Jones' film without George Lucas. That'd be insane," he said.

In the previous installments of "Indiana Jones," Lucas did not have much creative input as he was not involved with the story-writing. For "Indiana Jones" 5, David Koepp will be the one to write the script while Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy will take care of the production.

As of this writing, the plot of the new film has not been disclosed yet. However, Spielberg promised that Indiana Jones won't be killed off in "Indiana Jones 5." In a statement, however, Iger noted that they're focused on a reboot.

"Not like 'Star Wars,' no. But we hope right now, we're focused on a reboot, or a continuum and then a reboot of some sort," he revealed.

"Indiana Jones" 5 is expected to premiere in U.S. theaters in 2019.
