Hugh Jackman Latest News: Actor Says No More 'Wolverine' Movies After 2017

While 'X-Men: Apocalypse' is currently under production, the most iconic character of the movie is all set to appear in a stand-alone movie. However, fans of Wolverine will be saddened to learn that Hugh Jackman says the stand-alone movie, which is expected to release in 2017, would be his last venture as the clawed hero.

A report in IB Times states that the 46-year-old actor made the revelation that he will not reprise his Marvel superhero character after 2017 during an appearance on 'The Dr. Oz Show' on Friday.

"This will be my last one," Jackman said at the show, adding, "It is my last time, I just felt ... It felt like it was the right time to do it. And, let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last this long. I'm so grateful to the fans and for the opportunity of playing him, and I love it. I kind of have, in my head, what we're going to do in this last one, and it just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."

As of now, Jackman has portrayed Wolverine in all films of the Marvel's 'X-Men' franchise, counting two flicks that concentrated only on the main character with a metal skeleton, razor-sharp claws as well as a healing factor. Entertainment Weekly reports that it is expected Jackman will reprise his role first in 'Apocalypse' and subsequently in the third installment of 'Wolverine' move, making him appear in a total of nine Wolverine movies since his debut in 2000.

In fact, Jackman had hinted about his exit over a year ago in April 2014 when he told SFX that he would reprise the character for the last time in the yet-to-be titled 'Wolverine 3' movie. However, while talking to IGN during the press tour for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' he did a little backpedaling, saying, "At one point, you're right, I said I was pretty sure. But I'm less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever. And during this movie ... I don't want to spoil anything, but it's kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it's going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me."

However, unfortunate for Wolverine fans, now the actor appears to be ready to finally hang up his claws for good.

Meanwhile, there is very little information regarding the plot of the 2017 stand-alone film. Nevertheless, Patrick Stewart, who portrays the character of Professor Charles Xavier in the franchise, indicated that the movie may be some sort of a buddy-cop flick starring him and Jackman reprising their respective characters from the original trilogy and also the 'Days of Future Past.'
