HTC Butterfly 2 Release Date 2014 Announced: New Device Launching September 2 With 3 Color Variants

HTC recently unveiled a brand new Android smartphone, the HTC Butterfly 2 (aka J Butterfly HTL23) and confirmed that it will be released on Sept. 2, just ahead of the IFA trade fair in Berlin.

Earlier, it was rumored that the device would come out in August, with many upgrades to the previous model (HTC Butterfly), but that didn't happen.

The first of the series, the original HTC Butterfly was launched with the Android OS and released in 2012. Then the HTC Butterfly S, considered to be its successor, was released last year on June 19, but has only been marketed in the Asian markets.

Contrary to some tech enthusiasts' beliefs, the HTC Butterfly 2 is not a successor of the company's flagship smartphone HTC One M8, but instead, offers some interesting differences. While the color and plastic casing of the HTC Butterfly 2 bears resemblance to the design of the Butterfly S, the shape and size of this handset resembles the HTC One M8.

The phone comes with a 5-inch Full HD display, 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, microSD support, 13-megapixel Duo Camera cameras (without the UltraPixels), 5-megapixel front-facing camera, LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, dual front stereo speakers with HTC BoomSound, 2,700mAh embedded battery and Android KitKat with HTC Sense on top.

The dimensions of HTC Butterfly are 145.4mm x 70.2mm x 9.99mm, and it weighs 151g. This upcoming smartphone has IP55 and IP57 water resistance and dustproof certification. The device will come in at least three colors.
