House of Cards Season 3 Release Date: Netflix Premiere on Track After Maryland Tax Feud Resolved

Netflix original series, The House of Cards, will start filming its eagerly awaited Season 3 within the next few months after Media Rights Capital reached an agreement with the state of Maryland on a tax incentive dispute that had threatened to throw the next season of the hit Netflix show off track.

Governor Martin O'Malley announced Friday that an $11.5 million tax grant had been agreed for the third installment of the political drama, an amount lower than the demanded $15 million, but still a significant increase from what was originally offered.

The said amount is a combination of tax credits left from last year's production budget and a financial grant given by the General Assembly.

O'Malley, however, did not include the full taxpayer fund breaks.  House of Cards reportedly provides at least 37,000 jobs and at an approximate $100 million worth of economic activity, according to the series' makers. That significant investment into the region was a main reason that some in the state were eager to reach an agreement for the show to continue to work locally.

Media Rights Capital Co-CEO Asif Satchu extended gratitude to O'Malley and the General Assembly for the "tireless efforts to keep jobs in Maryland and for their continued advocacy and support."

Meanwhile, House and Senate members did not grant the fully requested $15 million, although it appears as though even though there was still $3.5 million remaining, the compromise was enough for the production team.

Senator Edward J. Kasemeyer, a Democrat member representing Howard and Baltimore, expressed his relief that the matter has now been settled and he explained that he sees the House of Cards as a good investment for the state.

"A lot of Maryland families are breathing a sigh of relief this weekend that their family members will be keeping their jobs," said E. Scott Johnson, chair of the Maryland Film Industry Coalition.
