'House of Cards' Season 2 on Netflix: Kevin Spacey Admits Agent Would Not Have Allowed Him to Do TV in Past / Premiere Date Not Confirmed

House of Cards put Netflix on the map in the world of original TV programming. The show garnered millions of viewers [new Netlix subscribers] and earned nine Emmy nominations for Season 1.

The most, or least [depending on how you look at it] surprising part of the show's success? It's not on TV!

Cards star Kevin Spacey thinks the simultaneous episode release is the future of television. Gone are the days of waiting a week for a new episode.

"We no longer live in a world of appointment viewing. So the water cooler has gone virtual, because the discussion is now online. Studios and networks who ignore either shift - whether the increasing sophistication of storytelling, or the constantly shifting sands of technological advancement - will be left behind," Spacey explained.

Spacey is a bonafide movie star and one of the most recognizable actors on the planet. With the "increasing sophistication" of original programming, Spacey now feels television is a viable market for a star of his status. He admits, however, his agent would never have allowed him to work in the medium in the past.

"Frankly, 15 years ago I wouldn't have been up here lecturing you because my agent would never have allowed me to even consider being on a television series after winning an Oscar," he said

House of Cards has been renewed for a second season but no official premiere date has been confirmed. The series is expected to return to Netflix some time in early 2014.
