'Homeland' Season 5 Spoilers: Carrie Mathison’s Relationship with Peter Quinn, Saul Berenson?

'Homeland,' the political thriller television drama series, will return on Showtime for its fifth season this autumn. According to reports, the storyline of the upcoming season of the show will be based on the twists and turns in the life of Carrie Mathison, portrayed by Claire Danes. In addition, the new season is also likely to highlight the relationship between her and Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) and Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin).

A report in the IB Times states that in the 'Homeland' Season 5 premiere, fans will see the lead characters based in three different countries and working on individual projects. While Mathison, a former CIA case officer, will be seen busy with her new job in Düring Foundation, a private security firm in Berlin, her mentor will be continue working with the CIA agents and her former colleague is may be seen in Syria.

Deadline reports that 'Homeland' Season 5 is also expected to introduce a number of new characters, counting German actor Sebastian Koch, who will portray the role of Mathison's boss and a familiar philanthropist in Germany named Otto During, actor Alexander Fehling in the role of the protagonist's new boyfriend and a legal counsel for the Düring Foundation, actress Sarah Sokolovic as an American journalist working for the security firm in addition to Miranda Otto as Berlin's chief of station Allison Carr.

According to the official synopsis of 'Homeland' Season 5, the sequel will commence from two years after Mathison's unfortunate tenure as Islamabad station chief. It states that Danes' character wil be seen struggling to resolve her guilt and disenchantment with years of working on the front lines in the 'war on terror,' and find herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin. She is now alienated from the CIA and working for a private security firm.

However, the synopsis does not tell anything regarding Berenson and Quinn. As a result, fans of 'Homeland' are interested to know the manner in which the plot line will connect the three lead characters with each other.

Meanwhile, several speculations have hinted that Mathison could be working as a secret agent in her new firm and may collaborate with CIA agents. However, 'Homeland' executive producer Alex Gansa has denied all such speculation. TV Line quoted Gansa as saying, "As we open the season, Saul is back in the CIA and Carrie is out of it. So that's going to create, by definition, a distance between them."
