Hawk Nelson's New Album Raises 'the Bar' Bassist Says, Band Promises Songs Bigger Than 'Words' (VIDEO INTERVIEW)

Christian rock band Hawk Nelson met up with BreatheCast briefly on the red carpet of the K-LOVE Fan Awards 2014 where they spoke about "raising the bar" with their new music.

The band started off by saying they were excited to be at the event. Lead singer and guitarist Jonathan Steingard said he was "excited to see MercyMe" because "they have something special planned, but I'm not allowed to talk about that," he continued. That surprise included swing dancers in their performance of hit single "Shake."

He then spoke on about the new material they are working on. "We are going in to start working on a new record tomorrow. Yeah, so we're pretty excited. Can't really say much about it yet."

Bassist, Daniel Biro chimed in, "Probably some songs bigger than 'Words.' We raise the bar."

"Words" is the band's biggest single off of their last album, Made. It features Bart Millard of MercyMe.

Made was a bit of a departure in terms of sound from the band's more heavier punk music. With vocalist Jason Dunn leaving, and Steingard taking it over, the songwriting and style was bound to shift. However, much of what the original Hawk Nelson was, is still there because Steingard had been in the band for several years playing guitar.

The Canadian band has been nominated for many Dove Awards but have never taken any home. On the flip side, they've won at the GMA Canada Covenant Awards and Golden Ear Music Awards.
