Google Nexus 5 Phone Release Date Review: Specs, Price, and Software / Did Google Finally Make an iPhone Killer? [VIDEO]

The Google Nexus 5 was announced last week and many critics think that it will be the first phone to surpass the iPhone both critically and commercially. Some of the first thoughts from critics centered on the excellent hardware and smooth design of the physical phone itself. Matthew Miller from ZDNet.com wrote an article about the weekend he spent testing the new Nexus 5 from Google. He wrote, "The display looks fantastic and with 445 ppi text doesn't get any crisper on a smartphone display. I like that three software keys appear at the bottom with back, home, and task switcher buttons that rotate when you rotate into landscape orientation. There is also a notification light at the bottom of the display that only appears when a notification comes in."

One of the major problems that early testers are having with the Google Nexus 5 is that the battery life does not support such a high resolution screen and Android KitKat 4.4. However, the Nexus 5 is priced at almost half of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Miller went on to talk about some software issues he had in his article. He wrote, "The phone app is improved with contact prioritization and Google Maps integration. However, I would still like to see some advanced features like social networking service integration. I'm used to having Facebook photos appear as my contact photos and am disappointed to now see several contacts with contact photos."
