'Frasier' actor Kelsey Grammer recently expressed his thoughts regarding his infamous role as King Herod the Great in the upcoming 'Killing Jesus' miniseries on the National Geographic network, claiming that the biblical figure was misunderstood.

Grammer is best known for playing as Dr. Frasier Crane on 'Cheers' (1984-1993) and its spinoff series 'Frazier' (1993-2004) on the NBC network.

"Herod is the guy that killed the kids - that's what I remember from Sunday school," said Grammar to reporters at a press tour in Pasadena, California to promote the future miniseries, according to an LA Times report.

"[HE] wasn't necessarily evil - he was just a guy who had to do some despicable things to maintain a balance of power."

According to the New Testament, Herod savagely killed many Jewish male infants when he discovered the birth of Jesus after he met the three Wise men 2,000 years ago.

The miniseries is based on Fox News' 'The O'Reilly Factor' host Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's book 'Killing Jesus: A History,' which focuses on the major events that happened just before the Messiah's crucifixion 2,000 years ago.

"This is a story that really places the man in his times," said miniseries Producer/Writer Walon Green.

Previously, Grammar explained why he believes the Christian community will embrace the latest portrayal of the Son of God in the miniseries.

"Any time you go and humanize the Bible story, I think it would win praise from every part of the Christian world," said Kelsey Grammer, according to an Entertainment Weekly report.

"I think they find increased modern relevance is valuable."

'Killing Jesus: A History' features an all-star cast that includes Haaz Sleiman (Jesus Christ), Kelsey Grammer (Herod the Great), Stephen Moyer (Pontius Pilate), John Rhys-Davies (Annas), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Herodias), Rufus Sewell (Caiaphas), Joe Doyle (Judas Iscariot) and Abhin Galeya as John the Baptist.

The 'Killing Jesus: A History' four-hour miniseries will air on the National Geographic channel in Spring 2015.
