Floyd Mayweather Next Fight Rumors: Will Mayweather Fight Manny Pacquiao in May 2015?

While Floyd Mayweather has made his intention clear that he will appear in a rematch with Marcos Maidana in September, fans are hoping to find Manny Pacquiao across from him in the ring, May 2015.

Talking to the media during an award ceremony last Sunday, Mayweather revealed his future plans following his rematch with Maidana. Although he mentioned something about a surprise, he did not mention any names. Many expect this surprise to be Mayweather's much anticipated fight with Manny Pacquiao.

International Business Times quoted Mayweather as saying, "September 13, back to business, Marcos Maidana v Floyd Mayweather part two. Then in May, I'll have a big surprise for you."

Boxing News published a similar report that said it is unlikely that Mayweather was talking about Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, or any other boxer, who are already scheduled to fight against him. The report continued by saying that if a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight does take place, it will definitely be a major event. However, it is Mayweather who would be in charge of everything related to the proposed fight.

The website further hypothesized that the pay-per-view record of the anticipated fight between Mayweather and Pacquio is likely to shatter the previous record of the Mayweather-Oscar Le Hoya fight in 2007, which hit a whopping 2.4 million purchases. It also stated that Mayweather may possibly earn anything between $10 million and $20 million more, compared to what he made from his earlier fights, provided he decides to take on the Filipino boxer.

Incidentally, Pacquio expressed his willingness to fight Mayweather five years ago, but according to a report, differences over drug testing issues and concerns over earnings were responsible for delaying the fight.

The report also claimed that Mayweather refused to deal with Bob Arum, Top Rank CEO, who is currently handling Pacquiao.
