Ex-Perrys Frontman Joseph Habedank Breaks Silence About Battle with Drugs in New Interview (VIDEOS)

Former lead singer Joseph Habedank of the Southern Christian group The Perrys recently talked about battling his addiction to drugs in a new interview.

"I just kind of fell in love with the feeling that it gave me," said Habedank to The Blaze when discussed with his addiction to various drugs, "[I] really became dependent on ... prescription drugs and, in specific, opiates."

Habedank also revealed how his past drug addiction led to him leave the popular group last year.

"By the end of it I was taking ten to twelve pain pills a day," said Habedank. "The group that I was with became aware of my problem and came to me and basically were very kind and gave me an ultimatum said 'Hey, you know, what would you like to do? We can't really have you on the road, but what would you like to do?'"

Habedank released the following statement on social media when he made the shocking announcement in 2013.

"After 10 years of having the great privilege to serve with the Perrys, I have decided to step down as Lead Singer at this time, [Co-founder Libbi Perry-Stuffle] and I talked earlier this week, and while I would never want to abandon her in such a great time of need, sometimes The Lord has other plans," wrote Habedank via Facebook on May 21, 2013.

"...As for my future, only The Lord knows what He has in store. I am confident of this one thing tho; I am absolutely nothing without Him and I only want His perfect will for my life. My wife, Lindsay, and I both covet your prayers in this time of transition. We love you all," he stated.

After checking into Cumberland Heights Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center in June 2013, he has been sober and free of his drug addiction for at least 432 days, according to The Blaze report.

"One of the craziest things about my story is that my wife found out that I had a little bit of a problem about three weeks before we got married and stayed with me," said Habedank.

He added, "My biggest passion in life, though, is to not only help the addicts, but to help the addict in the church, because prescription drug abuse is rampant in the church. I just have this huge passion to raise awareness about prescription drug abuse, because it's so easy to justify it in our minds."

Habedank recently released his new album titled Welcome Home in order to inspire people who are currently battling various addictions in their lives.

"[The album] kind of a soundtrack to my life the past two or three years," said Habedank. "This album, I think can help people ... I believe in what it stands for and what it can do for people," he concluded.
