Elysium Movie Trailer 

Elysium, the futuristic sci-fi thriller is set to release on August 9th. 

Damon will star alongside Jodie Foster in Elysium which is set in the year 2159. The human race is divided between the wealthy elite who have moved to live on a man-made space station that meets all of their needs called Elysium and the poor people in the population and left on Earth to fend for themselves against high crime and poverty surroundings. 

Damon's character Max fights to break into Elysium and Foster plays the mayor who will go to any lengths to keep the "undesirable" people off of the station. 

The new movie Elysium will open on August 23 in the U.K. 

Interesting side note, rapper Eminem was originally approached to play Max, the role Matt Damon eventually landed, but Eminem was only interested if they could shoot the movie in his home city of Detroit, but they were unable to make this happen. 

The director for Elysium is Neil Blomkamp who also directed the surprise hit District 9 in 2009. 

District 9 ended up being a huge hit at the box office and made over $210 million after being made for just $30 million. 

Blomkamp, who is becoming more popular in Hollywood circles now, was actually approached to direct the new Stars Wars film but turned it down.
