Earthquake Today News: Aftershocks Hit Napa After 6.0 Magnitude Earthquake

An aftershock occurred early Sunday morning at 2 am, and was felt five miles from Napa. The 3.2 magnitude aftershock is fairly significant, taking into account the 6.0 earthquake that hit Northern California a couple weeks ago.

However, even though the aftershock was rather strong, it didn't cause nearly as much commotion as the recent earthquake.

The first aftershock was felt Thursday, and it had a magnitude of 3.9, but it was eight miles South of Napa this time.

Earthquake specialists say that over the last week, 70 aftershocks have happened since the main earthquake. However, fortunately, none have been strong enough to inflict some serious damage to buildings or the people in them.

Taking into account the damage that the main earthquake caused, some of the historical buildings in Napa were significantly damaged. Also, thousands of buildings in the region were left without electricity, which made the whole thing that much harder for the people involved.

Beyond that, some fires also sprouted that destroyed many mobile homes. Other issues that occurred as a result of the main earthquake are gas leaks and water main breaks that have been reported.

Last week's earthquake has been called the strongest in 25 years, and has caused over $1 billion in damages.

On a side note, the citizens in Fairbanks, Alaska were hit by an earthquake late this Saturday. The quake measured 5.1 and was felt be the residents in the area for a good 10 seconds. Thankfully, no serious damages or injuries were reported.
