"Doctor Who" Season 8 Spoilers, Christmas Special Promo Trailer Released

BBC's popular series Doctor Who is growing ever so close to its planned Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor." Fans will bid bon voyage to the current doctor Matt Smith, and prepare to welcome new doctor Peter Capaldi.

A description for the Christmas special has been released that reads, "Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them - the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe."

The official poster for the Christmas special has been released that shows Eleven carrying a decapitated cyberman's head as he and Clara walk through the snow.

The Christmas special will be Matt Smith's last episode with the series and Clara (Jean Coleman) revealed that his last scenes may make fans teary eyed. "I knew it was going to be sad, but it was really traumatic. It was very emotional and overwhelming," Coleman told Digital Spy.

However, BBC Controller Charlotte Moore believes Peter Capaldi will do perfect as the replacement doctor saying, "[Capaldi is] going to be a really fantastic Doctor. He's an extraordinary actor with amazing ability and just watching the first scenes come through ... I'm very excited."

Doctor Who will be airing the Christmas Special titled "The Time of the Doctor," on Christmas day at 9 PM on BBC America. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
