Christian Group Takes High Road as Atheists Put Up Sign to Counter Easter Display, 'Atheism is Their Religion and I Honor That For Them' (VIDEO)

An atheist group retaliated to an Easter display done by Concerned Women for America (CWA), at the Wisconsin Capitol, which included a Christian cross and information pamphlets with a sign that labeled Jesus Christ as a myth.

The message from the Freedom From Religion Foundation is displayed next to the Easter one, and it reads: "Nobody died for our "sins,' Jesus Christ in a myth."

The atheist group said it they rushed to obtain the required permit needed for a display this week after learning CWA had permission for an Easter display.

The group's co-president, Annie Laurie Gaylor, said in a written statement: "It's unfortunate to see a sectarian symbol that is increasingly used as a symbol of political intimidation in our state capitol. It's also unfortunate to see women serving as a front for a patriarchal religion based on women's subservience and second-class status."

The CWA and other Christian groups have chosen to take the high road. The CWA woman who put up the Easter display, Kim Simac, spoke with Fox News Wednesday morning and stated that even though she disagreed with the anti-Christian message, the Freedom From Religion Foundation does have a constitutional right of freedom of speech and believes they too have the right to say or put up whatever they would like.

Simac went on to say we have freedom of religion, "not freedom from religion and atheism is their religion and I honor that for them..." She said she was not sure why they felt they had to counter her display and expressed the hope that the atheists would honor and respect Easter, "the most wonderful event" in hundreds and millions of Christians lives around the world.

Simac did say many atheists preach tolerance, but they do not practice it. She claimed that their press release seemed like "an attack on women, the cross" and "it's just not necessary." She said we "wish them well" and hope that they will see the "beauty that Jesus Christ brings to our life."

Faith and Freedom Coalition Chairman Ralph Reed said in a Fox News Insider story that he finds the atheist message "repugnant," but maintained that the nation's form of government protects such speech. He believes though that the Freedom From Religion Foundation's addition to the Easter display is a clear sign of "contempt" towards Christians and was disrespectful.

"I would certainly hope that people would show more respect for and deference on this most high and holy week," Mr. Reed said. "But unfortunately "¦ we crossed that line a long time ago."
