Christian Entertainers, Crowder, Anjelah Johnson, Chris August, Jesus Culture and more Join the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to Raise Money and Awareness (VIDEOS)

Over the weekend, the ALS ice bucket challenge went viral and dozens of celebrities including  Jennifer Lopez, Oprah, Justin Timberlake, Bill Gates, poured buckets of ice water over their heads to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig's disease. Christian entertainers willfully accepted the challenge as well; see the videos below to see some of your favorite artists get soaked for a good cause.

The challenge was to empty a bucket of ice water over your head or donate $100 to help find a cure for ALS. Many famous participants dunked the water and donated $100 (or more) to fund amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research projects. It is widely being reported that about 30,000 Americans now have the disease, which attacks nerve cells and eventually leads to total paralysis, although the mind remains sharp. Life expectancy is any where from two to five years from the time of diagnosis.

Mike Weaver from Big Daddy Weave posted his challenge and then in return nominated Chris August and others. August gladly accepted the challenge and was noticeably shocked that the water was so cold once he pored it over his head.

Worshiper David Crowder called out Jon Foreman of the band Switchfoot to take the Ice Bucket Challenge. The Switchfoot frontman accepted while on the road in Omaha. Jesus Culture member Chris Aquilala likewise joined in on the challenge and nominated comedian/actress Anjelah Johnson.

Television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck joined the ALS awareness campaign urging others to join and donate. Professional Golfer Bubba Watson accepted the challenge with his toddler son and in return they nominated the cast of Sesame Street

Others opted not to do the challenge, but instead donated only. Singer Mandisa took to Twitter to say, "I lost the ?#ALSIceBucketChallenge, but happily support ?@alsassociation in creating a world without ALS! Join me!"

The ALS association said Sunday it received $13.3 million in donations since July 29, compared with $1.7 million during the same time period last year. There were approximately 260,000 new donors.
