'Chicago Fire' News Cast News: Actor Warren Christie's Warm Welcome in Season 3

Warren Christie, currently of "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce," is being tapped for a recurring role on the NBC drama "Chicago Fire."

Christie is playing the new leading man of recently separated Abby McCarthy on Girlfriends' Guide, but that show is going into a break. Christie will join the "Chicago Fire" cast as a new firefighter with old ties to the group.

Christie is not a newcomer to the spotlight. Fans may know him from his current run on Bravo's scripted series, but Christie also starred in the film "Apollo 18" before his run as Cameron Hicks on SyFy's superhuman drama series "Alphas."

"Chicago Fire" is currently tackling a darker story arc. Since the beginning of the season, the topics of death and grieving have been at the core of the storyline. The death of Shay and, more recently, the death of Boden's father have been weighing heavily on Kelly Severide.

His character's journey has been a main story this season. It will be revealed that Warren Christie is a childhood friend of Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). There is a possibility that Christie could be joining as a sounding board for the grieving firefighter, which could be signaling a storyline shift.

While the actor has been scheduled for only a few episodes, that has not stopped speculation of his joining the cast as a regular. For those hoping that Christie's move to "Chicago Fire" will be permanent, they will have to wait.

Mid-season character additions can result in upgrades to the main cast, but those choices are usually based on how a new character resonates with viewers. "Chicago Fire" lost a member of its main cast at the start of the season with the exit of Lauren German.

There have been no additions since the exit of German, and there is certainly speculation that this announcement could be a precursor to a permanent casting decision.

So, while this could be an extended audition for Christie, there have been no confirmations regarding his future after these episodes.
