'Call of Duty' 2016 Release News: Activision Announced ‘Black Ops 3,’ ‘Ghosts’ Successor Gets Quarter 4 2016 Release

Activision has announced that its newest "Call of Duty" game will return in the fourth quarter of 2016 under Infinity Ward.

According to IGN, Activision confirmed that "Call of Duty" is set to be released within October to December. While Infinity Ward served as the developer for the Modern Warfare series, it is still vague whether the game developer is set to apply with the Ghosts setting in the next game.

Infinity Ward confirmed the game's release this year. On Feb. 12, the developer wrote on Twitter, "COD 2016. Now it's official. Can't wait to show you what we've been developing! #CallofDuty"

Developed by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, respectively, "Call of Duty: Black Ops III" and "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" were the last two games in the first-person shooting video game. The former hit the first spot globally for the calendar year, with the franchise grabbing the first spot in North America for seven straight years and selling more than 250 million units on a global scale, as per a previous IGN report.

The upcoming "Call of Duty" game is not assumed to surpass the profit made by "Call of Duty: Black Ops III," as per Game Spot. However, it is expected to see a slight increase in Activision's revenue secondary to the "Black Ops" DLC.

Activision described the new "Call of Duty" game as "innovative," despite lack of exact details about the game. It serves as the studio's first new game following "Call of Duty: Ghosts," which was accessible for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2013.
