'Black Jesus' Trailer Already Pegged 'Disrespectful,' 'Blasphemous' and a 'Mockery' by the Christians Offended With The Adult Swim Comedy (TRAILER)

The trailer of Adult Swim's new show 'Black Jesus' has already caused uproar among people that believe the upcoming comedy is highly "disrespectful."

"Black Jesus comes to television on Aug. 7, 2014 from the Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder. The new half-hour live-action scripted comedy Black Jesus will feature "Jesus" living in present-day Compton, Calif. The comedy features a mock Jesus whose daily mission is to spread "love and kindness throughout the neighborhood with the help of his small but loyal group of downtrodden followers," according to a press release.

Newcomer Gerald "Slink" Johnson (Grand Theft Auto V) will star as Black Jesus. The rest of the cast consists of Charlie Murphy brother of actor Eddie Murphy, Corey Holcomb, Kali Hawk, Andra Fuller and The Boondocks' John Witherspoon.

Upon the release of the trailer for the new show people immediately shared their disapproval.

"This trailer is very disrespectful to the body of Christ (church). This gives Christian and black folks a bad wrap. I see anything for money. So sad?," someone wrote on YouTube.

Another believer wrote, "Are you serious!?!?!?! This world is making a mockery of my Lord. This is not right?."

Another added, "This is blasphemous, how dare the media trivialized and literally slaughter the name of Jesus Christ by infiltrating him as a typical man a "homie" Well Jesus is not our homie He is our Savior who died for the sins of this world."

Not everyone opposed the controversial trailer, "It's not mocking Jesus. Jesus did in fact go through hardships where people didn't believe in the word. He was treated ugly. This is showing a humor side of it, but truth at the sametime," some one added.

The American cable network Adult Swim is known for its risqué, unorthodox and often bizarre content. Many of the series on the network feature are developed in stark contrast with traditional American television programs.

McGruder's popular show the Boondocks often makes many references to God and Jesus. Statements that have created an uproar about the complextion of Jesus skin and his race. In the popular family-based cartoon even features a character named Reverend Ruckus who is constantly making outlandish comments about Jesus.

People on social media are not quite sure what McGruder's angle will be with Black Jesus. Although television and Hollywood have both been doing well with Christian content, some viewers think this comedic cartoon might serve more as an insult to its Christian leader than anything else.
