'Assassin's Creed' Movie News: Alicia Vikander Bails On Role to Star in 'Bourne 5'

While it was recently revealed that actress Alicia Vikander dropped out of her role in Tom Hanks' 'The Circle' to open up her availability for the 'Assassin's Creed' adaptation or 'Bourne 5,' it appears that she has finally made her decision for which film to move forward with.

As of recent, it has been confirmed that Vikander has dropped out of 'Assassin's Creed' to follow up with her role in 'Bourne 5.' Her role for the project is still a mystery, as it was in 'Assassin's Creed,' but she will star opposite of action star Matt Damon.

"The Swedish star, currently the equivalent of a cinematic supernova following a starmaking turn in Alex Garland's sleeper hit Ex Machina, could not get her schedule to accommodate both projects. Deadline also understands she is unlikely to circle back to The Circle as things currently stand. That project, with Image Nation Abu Dhabi fully financing and presenting the film in association with Parkes Macdonald Productions, was one of the hot sellers at this year's Cannes market for IM Global. Based on a Dave Eggers novel and written and directed by James Ponsoldt, The Circle has Tom Hanks attached to star and produce alongside Gary Goetzman through their shingle Playtone and Anthony Bregman's Likely Story," writes Deadline.

Vikander's role in 'Ex Machina' has gained her star recognition, however she has built quite the filmography for herself in the recent year with projects such as 'Seventh Son,' 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,' 'Adam Jones,' 'The Light Between Oceans,' and more.

"Paul Greengrass returns to direct the Bourne pic and is writing the screenplay with Christopher Rouse. Frank Marshall again produces the action-thriller alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon, Greg Goodman and Ben Smith also produce. Rouse and Henry Morrison serve as executive producers. Universal Pictures will release. As Deadline reported exclusively last week, Julia Stiles is also set to return to the cast," writes Deadline.
