iPod 6G Release Date, Latest Specs News: Will Sport 4-Inch Screen & Come with Better Camera Sensor and SoC?

Rumors regarding the iPod lineup are back once again following the successful launch of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch. Incidentally, Apple has not updated its iPod lineup since 2012, when it released the fifth generation device that runs on the company's A5 Soc and incorporates an ARM Cortex A9 processor.

Christian Today reports that Apple Insiders claimed that the next-gen iPod will sport a 4-inch screen; similar to the one found in iPod 5G.

While no detail is currently available regarding the sixth generation iPod's screen resolution, the website states that the next iPod will either be equipped with Apple's A7 or A8 SoC. As the upcoming device will be running the A9 chipset inside, it will be appropriate that it incorporates an A8 chipset. In addition to this, it is expected that the 6th gen iPod will sport a superior camera sensor compared to its predecessors. However, it is still uncertain whether the sensor inside the iPod 6th generation will be equivalent to that sensor of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, or not.

Apple may also incorporate a Touch ID interface into the upcoming device as an added security measure. Although these are unconfirmed reports, it is expected that eventually Apple may simply place an NFC chip to assist contact-less payments through Apple Pay.

Apple reported the sales of iPod for the last time in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, wherein the sales tally was somewhat over 2.6 million units, enabling the company to earn revenues worth just $410 million.

On the other hand, the recently launched iPhones as well as the just released Apple Watch has been more successful in a shorter time span. Perhaps, this is the reason why Apple is not showing enough incentive to release its iPod 6th generation. Nevertheless, the upcoming gadget may still be unveiled during the WDDC 2015 event, together with the company's latest iOS 9 platform and iPad Pro.
