‘Annabelle’ Movie Release Date, Plot Spoilers: 'Annabelle' Is a Real Doll Currently Locked in a Case, Movie Based On True Story

A trailer was recently released for the upcoming movie 'Annabelle', which is a spin-off and a prequel of the hit horror movie 'The Conjuring'. The new film will focus on the origin of the Annabelle doll that was shown in Director James Wan's 2013 box office success.

The trailer revealed that the strange powers of the Annabelle doll began when its previous owners, a married couple expecting their first child, were almost killed by a satanic cult. Although the couple survived the attack, the doll became cursed when it was splashed with the blood of a possessed cultist. The curse, in turn, allows the doll to torment anyone that goes near it.

Surprisingly, the concept for the 'Annabelle' is actually based on a true story. Although the characters used in the movie have been altered a bit, the real haunted doll is currently in the possession of Lorraine Warren.

The story of the real life Annabelle doll began in 1970, when a college girl named Donna got a used doll from her mother. The doll that looks similar to iconic Raggedy Ann Dolls appeared normal at first, until Donna and her roommate, Angie, noticed that the doll seemed to move on its own.

Donna and Angie ignored the little incidents at first, but the two decided to consult a medium when they saw a red fluid, presumably blood, on the doll's hands. The girls learned that their apartment complex sits on what used to be a field, where a girl named Annabelle Higgins died. Allegedly, Higgins's spirit remained in the area, and latched into the doll when it came to the apartment.

The spirit supposedly found Donna and Angie to be trustworthy, and wanted to stay with them. The girls allowed this to happen, but for some reasons, the situation got out of hand, and they ended up consulting with Ed and Lorraine Warren.

The Warrens found out that the doll was not possessed by a ghost, but controlled by a demon trying to control Donna's soul. The doll is being kept in a locked case built by the Warrens to this very day.

The concept of the 'Annabelle' film revolves around the idea that the doll somehow escapes the locked case on its own.
