Android Wear 2.0 Release News, Update: First Generation Moto 360 Users Will Not Get Support?

Bad news for first generation Moto 360 users as their devices might not be able to support Android Wear 2.0.

Twitter user asked the Motorola Support page on June 10 whether or not the new device can be mated to the Moto 360 version 1.

"Unfortunately, Moto360 1 Gen will not receive the new update 2.0," the Motorola support admin replied.

But then timo_capa corrected himself, "It's funny how I actually meant the 6.0.1 security patch..."

The web admin didn't even miss a beat, and replied, "We will implement essential patches. As new security issues emerge, we will evaluate them and update your device as needed."

Motorola didn't address the elephant in the room, and that's the fact that it just shared the bad news about Android Wear 2.0 not being available to Moto 360 first-gen users.

However, it can't be said that this is a surprise considering the specs of the first-gen watch, which were underpowered in the first place, said Ars Technica.

"Many Android Wear updates, version 2.0 included, have added features that require new hardware components-support for Wi-Fi, internal speakers, LTE, and more has all been added since these first watches launched," it said.

End Gadget wasn't at all surprised either regarding the news regarding the Android Wear 2.0 and Moto 360 either. More than likely, Samsung Gear ASUS ZenWatch first-gen users won't receive the new update either.

"It's a reminder that smartwatches won't endure as long as their mechanical counterparts -- you'll have to swap wristwear every couple of years if you're determined to remain current," it added.
