Android Wear 2.0 Release Date News: Smartwatch To Be Released This Year; Developer Preview Available To Users

New details on the release date and features of Google's Android Wear 2.0 have surfaced.

Google revealed at the I/O 2016 event that its Android Wear 2.0 is set to be released this year, Neurogadget has learned. The wearable is one of Google's much anticipated product lines; however, the giant tech company has yet to announce its official release date. It is assumed that Google is also waiting for signals from the manufacturer before it announces an exact release date, as indicated by the publication.

Since the Android Wear 2.0 can only be accessed as a developer preview from Google, the LG Watch Urbane Second Edition and Huawei Watch users can just download it from Google and test it themselves. As per 9 to 5 Google, the update can also be obtained by most recent smartwatches like the Moto 360 Sport, Tag Heuer Connected, Fossil Q Founder, Moto 360 2nd Gen, and ASUS ZenWatch 2.

In terms of features, the Android Wear 2.0 is set to feature a darker design, which is primarily designed for round devices, since it is the prime design of most Google smartwatches. Aside from the dark design, the tech is also set to have a new launcher, which allows users to scroll applications around the side of the Watch Face instead of scrolling them in a straight list. Also, the notification icons are set to be smaller.

Google is also set to integrate standalone applications to the Android Wear 2.0, which can be downloaded by users directly into the watch or on the iPhone. Users can also gain access to the Google Fit app, which is capable of detecting the user's activities, such as walking, running, and cycling, and record them instantly.

Overall, Google has yet to announce the exact release date for its Android Wear 2.0.
