Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update for Sprint on the Galaxy Note 3

US telecommunications giant Sprint just announced Wednesday, September 10th, that the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update will be available through OTA for its subscribers who are currently using the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

The Sprint Galaxy Note 3 users will be among the firsts in the United States to receive the latest Android update alongside telecom rival Verizon's Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 users; while some S5 users from Sprint also reported that they too, have started receiving the Android 4.4.4 build.

Samsung first announced that the latest update for Google's Android platform will be available to the US market starting September 5th, but the upgrade wasn't made available by the US carriers to their subscribers until Wednesday.

The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is expected to improve Android smartphones' overall performance, as well as render support for WiFi calling, addition of HD Voice icon on the home screen, addition of Knox 2.0 and 'Kids Mode', and numerous security patch fixes.

The latest Android update will be made available to Sprint carriers by batch, with the Samsung Galaxy S5 update following closely by later this month.

Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3 users should receive notifications on their home screens that the Android 4.4.4 KiKat update is already available. If the notification doesn't show up automatically, users are advised to navigate through the Settings, select General, select About Phone, and then Software Updates.

OTA update of the KitKat 4.4.4 is only possible through WiFi connection as carriers sanction a limit for their mobile data. It is highly recommended that users' handhelds have at least more than 50% battery left to avoid disruption during the update process.
