Season 11 contestant Colton Dixon is coming back to perform live on the "American Idol" season 15 finale which will be live at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Thursday, April 7, and airs on Fox starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Although Dixon was booted out after making it to the top 7, his debut album "A Messenger" and the sophomore production, "Anchor," were both commercial successes. The former peaked at No. 15 at The Billboard 200 while the latter produced multiple No. 1 singles.

According to Billboard magazine, after "American Idol," Colton Dixon found his calling in Christian rock.

"I've been listening to Christian music since I was little. I grew up with it," he told the magazine. "I'm very happy that I was excepted well into that market. You never know...being an 'Idol' and going into Christian music - I've seen it work and I've seen it not work. I'm happy that it did."

The finale of "American Idol" season 15 will feature an all-star cast of previous winners and alums such as Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Scotty McCreery and Lee DeWyze.

Also performing are Katharine McPhee, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson, Amber Holcomb, Carly Smithson, Nick Fradiani, Allison Iraheta, Clay Aiken, Blake Lewis, Danny Gokey, Bo Bice, Diana DeGarmo, Clark Beckham, Bucky Covington, Chris Daughtry, Constantine Maroulis, Brandon Rogers, Casey James, Elliott Yamin, James Durbin, Jessica Sanchez, Ace Young, George Huff, Joshua Ledet, Pia Toscano, Justin Guarini, Sanjaya, Kellie Pickler, Tamyra Gray, Kimberley Locke, Kree Harrison, Melinda Doolittle, LaToya London, Lauren Alaina and Skylar Lane.
