'American Crime' Season 2 Cast, Start Date: ABC’s Crime Series To Present Community Issues [TRAILER]

ABC's anthology crime drama television series "American Crime" season 2 is set to feature current societal issues.

According to Christian Post, "American Crime" season 2 will present issues concerning sexual orientation and socioeconomic disparity. The upcoming season of the crime series stars "Falling Skies" actor Connor Jessup, who is set to play Taylor Blaine, teenager who had been harassed at the high school.

Reports say that the pilot episode of "American Crime" season 2 will open with Blaine blaming two basketball varsity players named Kevin LaCroix and Eric Tanner for drugging, assaulting, and posting his pictures online.

Because of such events, his mother Anne, who is played by Lili Taylor, is criticized by wealthy members of the school. The show will also see Blaine's girlfriend, Evy, who is played by Angelique Rivera, face racial tension at her own school.

Blaine's assault is also followed by headmistress Leslie Graham, who is played by Felicity Huffman, utilizing resources and opportunities to conceal the scandal to preserve the reputation of the school. A character named Dan Sullivan, who is played by Timothy Hutton, will also make his move to fix things within his group, even if his family experiences some challenges.

"American Crime" executive producer John Ridley also shared his thoughts about the title. In his interview with Variety this August, Ridley said that they had wanted to take incidents that sometimes in other shows tended to be week-to-week and episodic and not just use them merely as plot points.

For Ridley, it is vital to see how they played out with family, how they had a cascade effect over time, and with the community as well.

"American Crime" season 2 hits the small screen on Jan. 6 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
