The first official movie trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire just started popping up on the Web Wednesday, and is already generating quite a buzz. The sequel to Zack Snyder's 2006 graphic novel inspired action flick 300, will be filmed in the same comic-book style as the original. 300: Rise of an Empire takes place after Leonidas and the Spartans, and focuses on telling the story of Zerxes and his ambitious conquest of the surrounding Mediterranean lands.

The official trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire show Rodrigo Santoro is back playing the delusional human-God Xerxes, more powerful than ever. The sequel promises even more bloody combat and swordplay than the first. Xerxes teams up with Artemisia, played by Eva Green [Casino Royale] to take on General Thermistocles, played by Sullivan Stapleton, and the rest of the Greek army.

Remembering the destruction Xerxes caused the Spartans, and the death of her husband Leonidas, Lena Headey rallies the Greek army in the trailer.

"A wind of freedom. A wind of justice. A wind of vengeance," whispers an inspiring Gorgo, Queen of Sparta, played by Lena Headey [Game of Thrones, 300].

300: Rise of an Empire was directed by Noam Murro and produced by Zack Snyder. Snyder directed the original 300 as well as the upcoming Superman flick, Man of Steel. 300: Rise of an Empire is scheduled for a March 7, 2014 release date.
