MacBook Air 2014 Release Date Rumors, Specs: Launch Not Scheduled Until 2015?

If latest rumors are to be believed, Apple will not be launching the purported 12-inch version of the MacBook Air until next year.

A report with Ecumenical News says that the release of the mid-sized MacBook Air has been pushed back to 2015 owing to "processor supply constraints in Taiwan." Citing an earlier claim by BGR, the report further states that as far as the release date is concerned, Apple is still working on the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air.

For a while now, there have been rumors that the MacBook Air 2014 will be coming with Intel's 14 nanometer chip, but it seems that the supply may just be limited for the 11-inch and 13-inch models. Nevertheless, the report claims that the company's own Brian Krzanich has assured holiday shipping for the desired Broadwell processors.

The report quotes Krzanich saying, "We said we would have products on shelves for the holiday season and we continue to work with our partners and we're on schedule to have product on shelf in the holiday."

According to BGR, the other supposed specs and features of the device include "new chassis, new screens and new chipsets." The upcoming MacBook Air 2014 is also supposed to be shipped with Apple's latest OS X Yosemite.

Rumors are also rife that similar to the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air is also supposed to get a Retina display upgrade, making the MacBook Air's display top-of-the-line in terms of quality.

It is rumored that the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air 2014 models are both likely to be launched by late Q3 of 2014, while the 12-inch model may not make it to shelves until next year. However, Apple has yet to confirm the release date for the MacBook Air line.
