Matt Papa releases his sophomore studio release.
Matt Papa graduated from college with a degree in music, soon afterwards releasing his debut music project. It was released first as a self-titled album on the SPIN 360 Records label and then got rereleased nationally with the new title of, 'You Are Good.' Now at the still young age of 25 Matt Papa is back with his sophomore studio album, 'Your Kingdom Come.'
Matt Papa is a husband, singer, songwriter, and worship leader. What you'll find on his latest release is a collection of 18 songs that will keep your stereo speakers busy with a whopping 74 minutes of music.
Papa's songs include many different styles of music from pop, pop-punk, and rock, to passionate piano worship songs, that if you close your eyes will bring visions of the late great Keith Green flooding into your mind.
The songs found on, 'Your Kingdom Come,' are centered on the point that we need to start putting real action behind our words in service to the Lord. Papa shares a story that, "...I heard someone say once that it's easy to lift your hands before God in worship, but if you aren't reaching those hands out to the world, those hands lifted to God are worthless. Now don't get me wrong I'm not against lifting our hands in worship. But we also must love the world with those same hands."
It's good that Papa loves worshipping the Lord because track-1,"Hallelujah, Our God Reigns," is just that, a straight-up praise & worship song to the Lord with lyrics like, 'You are The King of kings and Lord of lords.'
It would take up way to much space to mention all of the 18 songs that are found on this release so I'll hit a couple of them to give you a general feel for the album.
You'll find several really short tracks that only last under a minute in length like, "So Come Reign...," that offers up a middle eastern instrumental sound and track-6,"Seek It First...," a piano instrumental with a running time of just 36 seconds. While the rest of the songs worked for me I couldn't see any benefits gained by including these ultra-shorts tracks on the release.
Several tracks that did really work for me included the title track, “Your Kingdom Come," that's a modern worship song dealing with turning back from sin and revival happening in the streets. "You Can Do Anything," is a nice very upbeat pop-punk number that features fast guitar, drum work and vocals. The song is all about the fact that, 'with God anything is possible!'
"Where is the Difference" offers song lyrics that deal with the need for us to be more Christ-like in our love for others, reaching out to help those in need. "Woe To You," has a similar vibe that talks about people who are, 'religious,' and act like Christians on the outside, while inside their hard hearted, always saying the right thing while not following the true teachings of Jesus.
"We Will Shine," is a call-to-action rock anthem, complete with marching feet sounds, that talks about us being the army of God.
The music found on, 'Your Kingdom Come,' is all about is having a deep, service to others type of faith, in your life, that's set against music that will set your heart pumping at times while still at others bring a tear to your eye.
