To celebrate their 10 years together as a band Salvador has released their, 'How Far Is Heaven: The Best of Salvador' CD. This release features songs taken from several of the bands past albums (Salvador- 2000, Into Motion-2002, Con Poder-2003, Worship Live- 2003, So Natural- 2004, Que Tan Lejos Esta El Cielo- 2005, Dismiss the Mystery- 2006, Aware- 2008) along with exclusive content available for the first time on this CD.
When I think of Salvador's music, I think of lively, up-tempo, Latin pop music. This band is serious about their music, but still has a lot of fun while performing it. This fun comes across loud and clear on the seemingly always happy and smiling face of band frontman Nic Gonzales.
Track-1, "Lord, I Come Before You," gets things kicked off right. This is probably the most recognizable song from the band. It features the band's signature upbeat Latin pop sound and is overflowing with rich horn parts that drive the song, along with rhythmic guitars and sparkling vocals. The song is all about joyful praise and worship to the Lord.
Several other highlight tracks found on, 'How Far Is Heaven: The Best of Salvador' include the melodic "Cry Holy," a song complete with choir like backing vocals. "Heaven," a lively track that mixes in a little bit of an island sound. "Shine," a track that talks about wanting to live a life that's a reflection of the Lord. "What Would It Be Like" deals with the thought of how great it would be if we would just simply love each other, and do away with all of the hate found in the world today. The last track I'd like to mention, "The Landing," is ironically also the last track found on the release. The song deals with how sometimes a downfall type of situation in our life is just what we need because often it's in those times that we find God is waiting for us at the landing.
Sometimes band rush to put out a, 'best of,' release as a way to get a quick CD out to the public, this isn't one of those. After 10 years and a prolific number of previous releases this band has the pedigree to put out a best-of release.
Fans of Salvador will get reacquainted with the band songs from the past along with several new songs. While for newcomers to the band's music this release will open up a brand new world of just what Christian Latin pop music sounds like when it's done the right way.
