BREATHEcast.com: Explain where you got the name Casting Pearls?

Bryan: Casting Pearls has been together as a band for about 6-7 years now, and back when we have started, we saw that there was some reference in the bible about the word being compared to precious pearls. [Pearl = precious value =word of God] We want to proclaim this, and show the truth through what we do in our music.

Any new doors God is opening for Casting Pearls?

Well, on our first week, the sales went really well. We sold over 1,200 in our first week. The label company and management were excited and happy about that.

Casting Pearls obviously garnered a larger audience since signing with Inpop Records. As more and more people are listening to and watching you guys play, how are you striving to set the example as an influential worship leader?

I think you set the example off stage for sure. It’s probably easy for someone to go up there and say all the right things. We just strive to do the right thing in our personal walk and our relationship with God and our families and inner circles. I want to feel this connection and talk with the audience, rather than have them sit there and just watch us rock… It’s more on who we are everyday.

What is the main theme of the Casting Pearl record?

The general theme of our record is to live beyond salvation. There’s a lot of people I know that spend years not knowing His word-- but just existing in salvation. We want to encourage the body to go beyond that state.

Can you share of some positive feedback you’ve been receiving lately?

Jon and Sherry Rivers from K-Love forwarded us an e-mail of a lady that just went through a divorce. She heard our song “Alright,” and it was a great encouragement to her. The song talks about how things will be alright...
“Rains fall from the sky but my day is still shining bright.” Things might not be going well, maybe most of your days are filled with trouble, but we have eternity in heaven coming, and I don’t think we focus on that enough. We’re looking for God to bless us on earth, but we must remember there are treasures that wait for us in heaven… this women was encouraged by this, and hearing that was a great encouragement to us.

What do the other members of Casting Pearls do when you’re touring with the newsboys?

Well, Our drummer [Scott Rutz] is a graphic designer, and he does a lot of freelance work, and takes care of our website. Our bassist, Case Maranville, gives guitar lessons, and deals with the vending business… he’s a worship leader at his church.


Random Q: What are your plans for Christmas?

Just to be home and hanging with my family. Hopefully, a lot of eating… and watching my kids play. =)

Traveling across the nation, and performing almost every night might be physically tiring, and sometimes repetitive. What gives you strength to go out there each night and perform?

This is something [music] I dreamt about doing all my life. Sometimes it's weird when you’re tired and when you’re not in the mood. Even if there’s traveling involved, I’ll take it, because it’s something I’ve been called to do. I think about what I do, and the people who we will play for, and all these things just mentally prepare me. You know, if I’m gonna be away from my family and travel around the country, I might as well submit that time to the Lord and gain strength through Him.
