Newsboys News, Newsboys Close Out Creation West 2005

Legendary pop-rockers the newsboys closed out the, “three exciting days of great Christian music, inspired teaching, camping, friends, and much more,” at Creation West 2005 Festival with one of the group’s, “most powerful performances of their ministry,” according to the newsboys’ website.

Hands were lifted high throughout the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA as the newsboys played through a set that included classics such as “Million Pieces,” “It Is You,” “Entertaining Angels,” “Breakfast,” and the band’s new song “I Am Free,” all of which were recorded for the group’s upcoming live DVD.

During the middle of the set, front man Peter Furler gave a message that ended in a challenge to the crowd to bring another person to Christ this year.

“You don’t fully come into your purpose until you know what God’s purpose is, and God’s purpose is in building His church,” said Furler. “And what God is looking for is for believers to move past the step of being believers and to become disciples of Jesus, and what that means is realizing that this your watch in history and that you’ve got a charge to keep.”

Furler’s message resonated with a theme present at the festival to put one’s faith into action.

“Lord, we want to go from this place ready to heed the battle cry – we want to go from this place ready to revolutionize the world for Jesus Christ,” was the closing prayer at the end of the festival.

Peforming prior to the newsboys during the evening portion of the festival were artists Joy Williams, Jeremy Camp, Jason Morant, and Casting Crowns, who finished their set with their hit single, “What If His People Prayed.”

A diverse mix of artists were featured earlier in the day with rock group Skillet, worship band Starfield and veteran Phil Keaggy appearing on the main stage.

Speakers featured on Saturday were youth minister Duffy Robbins, former mafia boss Michael Franzese, and Teen Mania Ministries founder Ron Luce, who delivered the last sermon of the day with his message “Battle Cry For A Generation.”
