Talk about being on the road. MercyMe have dates lined up from February to next September, giving fans dozens of chances to see them, with more opportunities probably on the way.
Beginning in Wichita, Kan., February 10, MercyMe plays everything from major venues to churches coast-to-coast, winding up at Disney World on September 9th.
The spring leg is billed as the Undone Tour and will feature Jeremy Camp as well as The Afters, and Monk & Neagle.
MercyMe was formed in 1994 when a group of friends decided to play for the local churches. Things changed quickly in 2001 when the song "I Can Only Imagine" on a compilation album. The song, speculating on what heaven is like, struck a chord with listeners in the post 9/11 era. Suddenly, a band that was used to selling 1,000 CDs in a couple of months was selling a whole lot more.
"We were overwhelmed," MercyMe singer Bart Millard said. "All of a sudden, out of our garage, we're shipping CDs to over 400 book stores. ... I think we sold about 65,000 to 70,000 units of that independent project before we ever signed a record deal, within about two years. We really didn't know what we had on our hands. We just thought it was a cool song."
The band, through its major-label debut, went on to win multiple Dove awards and is one of the best-known Christian rock bands out there today.
