Popular Christian pop-rock group MercyMe has broken the record for most adds on Christian Adult Contemporary (AC) radio with their latest single “So Long Self,” which is the first song to be released from the group’s upcoming April release Coming Up to Breathe.

The single, which will debut at #25 on the AC Indicator R&R Chart next week, received a whopping 52 adds from R&R’s Christian AC indicator and AC monitored reporters, breaking the previous record set by Joy William’s song “Hide,” which received a total of 45 adds on AC radio its first week out.

"MercyMe just keeps getting better with every record and this one shows a whole new side of the band,” commented Kevin Peterson, R&R’s Christian Editor. “Radio must agree, with 'So Long Self' setting records for most adds in a week.”

According to MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard, “the story behind ‘So Long Self’ is really simple: It’s Not About Us. It never has been and it never will be. Just like when maybe you had to break up with a girlfriend or a boyfriend growing up, or maybe the same thing happened to you, the ultimate breakup in life is when we breakup with ourselves. Because Christ said you have to die to self to follow him. So if you take away anything from this song, just remember: it’s never ever been about us, but it’s only about Christ. Hope you enjoy it.”
