Acoustic rock driven newcomer Kelly Minter stands out as quite refreshing in this age of computer-chip pop. The title track is radio ready and respectfully comparable to Shawn Colvin's "Sunny Came Home," albeit much more optimistic in theme. "Any Way" and "Speak to Me" feature alluring arrangements--slow burning and spacious, with a dose of 1980s' arena roots-rock inspiration. Elsewhere, Minter's top draw is the honesty of her delivery and its non-copycat similarity to Jennifer Knapp. In a year when the latter is not scheduled to release a new project, heartfelt Kelly Minter cuts like "After All" and "Return to Me" offer equal potency. And across the board, her lyrics are steeped in New Testament imagery, with the singer always focused on the bright side of life--even amidst struggles.
