Jeremy Riddle is both a worship leader and Christian artist. His debut release 'Full Attention,' was released in early 2007 and produced the hit single, "Sweetly Broken." That song spent time on the charts and has also found its way into many church worship services.
It's been two years since then and now Riddle is back with his sophomore effort, 'The Now and Not Yet.' The twelve tracks found on it are a collection of pop and rock music that are overflowing with worship styled lyrics.
Tempo wise the songs fall into one of three ranges; melodic with a ballad feel, mid-range steady but not too fast, and lastly all out pop/rockers complete with, thick drum beats, and electric guitar riffs.
One of the musical effects that Riddle likes to use in the songs is crescendos, with the songs starting out softly and building up the passion until it reaches the exploding point.
"Christ is Risen" kicks things off with an opening rolling drum part that's quickly joined by stabbing guitar chords. Lyrically the song deals with the face that we serve a risen Christ that has overcome the grave and the sting of death.
Track-2 "Prepare The Way Of The Lord," is also notable for its use of club synthesizer sounds, along with repetitive drum machine like beats that are found on it.
Another track worth noting is, "Bless His Name," The song uses that aforementioned crescendo effect starting out slow and simple building to an all out guitar and drum driven frenzy before slowing things back down again near the end of the song. Lyrically it's about all out praises to the Lord. The song has a sound that's very reminiscent of fellow Christian band Delirious?.
For those of you who like your music more on the melodic side you'll enjoy songs like, "As Above, So Below," "Among The Poor," and "I Am Redeemer."
The main point found on this album deals with the fact that we're living in some rough times but as long as we keep our focus on the Lord and living a Christ-like life then we will be okay, through His grace and mercy. Knowing that Christ has overcome the world and is our true strength and salvation. You'll also find a call to action to show the love and mercy Christ shows us to others, especially the poor, broken hearted, and hurting among us.
All of the songs found on, 'The Now and Not Yet' were written by Riddle except for "Bless His Name," which was written by Riddle's good friend Tony Sanchez.
While this release offers up a lot to digest, the one word that I kept thinking about while listening to it was passion.
Jeremy Riddle isn't making music to get famous and rich, he truly loves the Lord and can't help but sing Christ praises to the world.
