Critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter Peder Eide will release a new Christmas CD in November entitled
Perfect Surprise. Produced by Lifeway producer/songwriter Paul Marino,
Perfect Surprise features seven Christmas classics as well as three original tunes. One song in particular, "Why Wouldn't I?" is a song about adoption, a subject close to Eide's heart.
"A few years ago my wife and I were sitting down for a meal with our kids," Eide explains. "And she, out of the blue says, 'I don't think everyone's here yet.' That confused me. We had three children, and there they sat. My wife and I couldn't medically have any more children, but what I didn't realize was that God was shaping our hearts to become adoptive parents."
The Eides adopted their daughter Makenzie from Korea in September 2004. Then, in August of last year, they brought home a little boy named Teshome from Ethiopia. Along with their older children, 13-year-old Taylor, 9-year-old Allison, and 8-year-old Ethan, the Eides are clear that their decision to adopt was one of the best decisions they ever made.
"When we started thinking about adopting a fifth child, I really began to think selfishly. I wondered if I could even handle five. But after I set myself aside, I was compelled to ask, 'why wouldn't I adopt another child?' And that's how the song got its start. Adoption is expensive and can often be an emotionally-grueling process. But both Makenzie and Teshome have added so much joy and enrichment to our family, it's hard to imagine our lives without them. I hope the song conveys that message and I hope it inspires people to consider adopting."
Eide will highlight
Perfect Surprise on his 12th Annual Christmas tour beginning December 2nd in Wisconsin. The 12-city tour will also visit Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Carolina, and Iowa.
