An upcoming episode of NBC comedy “Will & Grace” originally intended to feature a cameo from pop-star Britney Spears as a Christian TV host and entitled “Cruci-fixins” will no longer contain those elements, according to reports.
The announcement was made in an e-mail posted on IndyChristian.com from Rod Porter, Programming Director for the Indianapolis-based NBC affiliate WTHR-13, which contained a statement from NBC that read:
“Some erroneous information was mistakenly included in a press release describing an upcoming episode of ‘Will & Grace’ which, in fact, has yet to be written. The reference to ‘Cruci-fixins’ will not be in the show and the storyline will not contain a Christian characterization at all. We value our viewers and sincerely regret if this misinformation has offended them.”
The statement apparently came after a number of individuals concerned about the upcoming episode contacted WTHR-13 (who’s contact information was posted on IndyChristian.com), as Porter takes time at the beginning of his e-mail to thank a group for, “taking the time to share your concerns regarding ‘Will and Grace.’”
The incident comes only a week after NBC decided to drop its controversial new drama series
”The Book of Daniel”, which sparked criticism for its portrayal of a “morally bankrupt” family headed by an Episcopalian priest as well as its depiction of Jesus Christ, who’s character was described by Focus on the Family as a, “wimpy, white-robed visitor who cares little about evil, addictions and perversity.”
The American Family Association, who led conservative protest efforts against “Daniel” and has stated that the NBC network as a whole flaunts “anti-Christian bigotry,” has yet to release a statement regarding “Cruci-fixins.”
"Will & Grace," which contains several openly and active homosexual characters, airs on Thursdays at 8 pm EST.
