Reunion recording artist The Annie Moses Band has announced plans for their 2009 Fine Arts Summer Academy (FASA). An intensive program for young artists designed to bolster technical development and performing experience, FASA will be held July 10-26 on the campus of Nashville's Lipscomb University.
Dedicated to the spiritual and artistic development of young people, The Annie Moses Band strives to ignite a passion for excellence in the arena of the arts and to inspire obedience to the scriptural mandate to "Make His Praise Glorious" and to "Play Skillfully."
"We are heavily involved in every aspect of what goes on with the camp. It's not just an event we endorse, it's an event we teach, plan, administrate, write, and arrange," said The Annie Moses Band's lead vocalist/violinist, Annie Wolaver. "The Fine Arts Summer Academy counters current cultural trends of low expectations and inferior accomplishment by offering students an opportunity to hone their craft. It is an artistic workout that leaves even the most inexperienced participants with a life-changing revelation of their own potential. The payback is wonderful; emails and letters flood our inbox with testimonies of commitments renewed, work ethics revised, and destinies defined."
FASA attendees select a study track based upon their area of expertise. Tracks are offered for instrumental arts: strings, brass, woodwinds, guitars, drums/percussion and piano; musical theater arts: dance, drama and voice; and technical arts: sound, lighting and video.
The Academy's upper division is open to rising fifth graders through college sophomores, while a lower division Mini-Music Fest, held July 10-18, is geared for ages 4-10. Students will spend each day in their chosen track participating in classes designed to build technical skills and to prepare for a series of performances.
The second week culminates with FASA's Final Gala Performance, a thematic presentation featuring the "best of" performances from the two weeks, as well as new music collectively featuring all students. Bill and Robin Wolaver, the master craftsmen behind the music of The Annie Moses Band, write a customized musical variety show designed with the specific artistic and musical skills of those attending in mind. The Gala will be professionally filmed and is slated to feature several special guest artists.
The Annie Moses Band is a Christian family of Juilliard-trained musicians and award-winning songwriters dedicated to virtuosity in the arts. Led by lead singer/violinist, Annie Wolaver, the Band includes her five siblings: Alex, viola; Benjamin, cello; Camille, harp/keyboard; Gretchen, violin/mandolin; and Jeremiah, guitar and banjo. Add the veteran songwriting talents of their parents, Bill and Robin Wolaver, and you have a dynamic group with roots in classical, pop, and jazz. Together, they are leading an artistic renaissance in the Church through musical excellence, strength of family, and a message of faith, inspiring all generations to join in the discipline, beauty, and excitement of highly skilled musicianship.
