How did you come to know Jesus Christ?
Oh yeah, that's a great question. I grew up in a Christian home. My parents were both believers and they were the first people to come to know Christ in their own family so it's kinda like I'm the second generation here.
My dad was a pastor and he started a church of which he still pastors a few years before I was born in Virginia. I remember hearing about Christ at a very very early age so I really don't even remember the day. But I do remember many different experiences where the Lord allowed me to make the relationship my own. And my understanding of forgiveness and His sacrifice for me became very pertinent and real as I got older and had my own situations of understanding my own guilt and depravity. My parents are the ones that told me about the Lord and church.
When you look over your lifetime who or what has been the greatest influence over your music?
I think a couple things as far as artists are concerned I was really heavily into the Christian contemporary music of the late 80s and early 90s. I was listening to the artists that were on the front end. Some of the female artists like Margaret Becker [etc.] and a lot of your other artists like Michael W Smith and Steven Curtis-Chapman. Even some pop artists stylistically influenced me like Sheryl Crow, etc. But it was really my own experiences that influenced the lyrical content and different things that I went through. Different hardships or celebratory times that would influence my music. I would learn about the Lord through scripture and study so it was just my life that dictates how the lyrics go.
How do you go about your process of writing music for your CDs? Do you write songs for a particular CD or choose from a bank of songs that you have written over time?
I just write and then I just kind of choose from what I have instead of writing song just for a particular CD.
I have been doing some Bible study writing and book writing lately. So I am kind of going back and forth right now. I wrote a Bible study called, "No other Gods" last year and that's been a really good thing. And I am currently writing a Bible study on the book of Ruth. I also wrote a Bible Study for teenage girls called "Hannah's One Wish". But I really just write.
How would you describe your life's passion?
I want listeners to become inspired to know Christ even more. I want readers and listeners to know that will of Christ. I minister to all women from various walks of life whether they are teenagers or adults.
How do you balance all the things you do with ministry, your relationship with God and people?
I love to stay involved in the local community and that's what helps me to stay balance with all the external ministry work that I do. [In particular] I have a Bible study on Wednesdays for women prisoners.
Kelly Minter is multi-talented and has been using her God given talents to become a beacon of light for the people she has been called to impact.
